Progress M-14M Launch and Docking

Progress M-14M launched from Baikonur with almost three tons of supplies to the International Space Station. The Progress spacecraft docked to the Pirs Docking Compartment of the station on January 27, 2012.

Proton-M Rollout with NSS-14

On January 25, 2012, a Proton-M launch vehicle rolled out at Baikonur with the communications satellite NSS-14 (SES-4). The launch, scheduled for January 28, was postponed due to technical reasons. The NSS-14 satellite carries onboard 52 C-band transponders and 72 Ku-band transponders, and it will provide services to Europe, Middle East, West Africa, North America, and South America. NSS-14 will be placed on the 22 degrees W slot.

ASX 2012 Symposium in Toronto

The University of Toronto Astronomy and Space Exploration Society (ASX) announced its 9th annual symposium. The ASX symposium is an event that aims to educate the public on space exploration related topics. Past symposium speakers include the Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, Anousheh Ansari, and Dr. Carolyn Porco.

 

The event’s topic this year is Space 2.0: What’s Next?. The end of the space shuttle era has brought the rise of private companies in the space sector. This year’s speakers, Dr. Nicole Buckley, Dr. Marc Millis, and Mr. Thomas A. Olson, will talk about emerging space technologies and how the private companies in the space sector will change the dynamics of the industry.
