A second generation Meteosat weather satellite was launched from Kourou, French Guiana, on board an Ariane 5 launch vehicle. Ariane 5 lifted off on July 5, 2012. ESA has developed the series of weather satellites in close cooperation with the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, Eumetsat.
