Soyuz TMA-22 Rollout and Launch

A Soyuz-FG launch vehicle rolled out with Soyuz TMA-22 on November 11, 2011. Soyuz TMA-22 lifted off on November 13 from Baikonur Cosmodrome with Expedition 29 crew members Anton Shkaplerov, Anatoly Ivanishin, and Dan Burbank.

J-2X Firing Test

On November 9, 2011, the J-2X rocket engine was put to a 500-second firing test at NASA\’s Stennis Space Center. The J-2X engine will be used as an escape engine for the Orion spacecraft. As a component of the new Space Launch System, J-2X will help NASA explore deep space.

Zenit-2/Phobos-Grunt Rollout and Launch

A Zenit-2 launch vehicle rolled out with the Phobos-Grunt spacecraft at the Baikonur cosmodrome on November 6, 2011. Zenit-2 lifted off with Phobos-Grunt on November 9. The spacecraft failed to fire the escape engines and it is right now stuck in orbit around the Earth. The Russian Federal Space Agency makes efforts to save the mission.

On October 31, 2011, a Proton-M/Breeze-M launch vehicle rolled out with three Glonass-M satellites. Proton-M lifted off on November 4, 2011.
