AMS Installed Outside ISS

The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) is installed outside the International Space Station. AMS is a high-energy particle detector. AMS will detect electrons, positrons, protons, antiprotons, and nuclei in cosmic radiation.

On May 17, 2011, a Proton-M/Breeze-M launch vehicle rolled out to the launch pad at the Baikonur cosmodrome. Proton-M will place into orbit an American satellite, Telstar 14P.

The Space Shuttle External Tank (ET) falls away from Endeavour after the Main Engine Cut Off (MECO). Endeavour is on its way to the International Space Station. The mission is led by Commander Mark Kelly and the crew consists of pilot Greg Johnson, mission specialists Mike Fincke, Drew Feustel, Greg Chamitoff and ESA astronaut Roberto Vittori.

Fully-integrated Soyuz at Kourou

A dry run performed at Kourou, in French Guyana, ensured that the launch vehicle and the new facilities are working together. A lift off and a flight downrange were simulated.
