On January 14, 2005, ESA’s Huygens probe landed on the surface of Titan, Saturn’s largest moon. After a seven-year journey onboard the Cassini spacecraft, Huygens became the most distant manmade object to land on another world.

On December 24, 1979, the Ariane launch vehicle made its first flight from French Guyana. During 30 years of service, a total of 277 payloads have been delivered into geostationary transfer orbit, low Earth orbit, Sun-synchronous orbit and on Earth escape trajectories for 73 customers.

Soyuz TMA-17 was launched on December 20, 2009. TMA-17 is a manned space flight to the International Space Station, which carried three members of the ISS Expedition 22 to the station: Oleg Kotov, Timothy Creamer, and Soichi Noguchi.

On December 14, 2009, WISE was launched aboard a Delta II launch vehicle from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer or WISE is a NASA-funded scientific research project that will provide an all-sky survey in the mid-infrared wavelength range.
