Soyuz-U Launch

On September 10, 2010, a Soyuz-U launch vehicle liffted off from the Baikonur cosmodrome carrying a Progress M-07M cargo spacecraft. The Progress spacecraft, dubbed ISS Progress 39, will deliver propellant, oxygen, water, and other supplies to the Expedition 24 crew members. Docking with the station is scheduled for Sunday, September 12, 2010.

The Rosette Nebula

Data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory revealed hundreds of young stars in the central cluster and the fainter clusters on either side of the Rosette star formation region, located about 5,000 light years from Earth. In the cluster on the right side of the region, named NGC 2237, about 160 new young stars have been discovered using the data collected by Chandra.

Proton-M Launch

On September 2, 2010, a Proton-M heavy launch vehicle lifted off from the Baikonur cosmodrome with three Glonass-M satellites. The satellites were placed into the designated orbits by the DM-2 upper stage.

DM-2 Test

NASA and ATK successfully tested a five-segment solid rocket motor. The motor, dubbed DM-2, is the largest and the most powerful solid rocket motor designed for flight. It is designed to generate up to 3.6 million pounds of thrust at launch.

Expedition 24 EVA #4

Flight engineers Douglas Wheelock and Tracy Caldwell Dyson removed the spare pump module from an external stowage platform and installed it on the S1 Truss. The EVA was performed on August 16, 2010, and lasted for 7 hours and 20 minutes.

Expedition 24 EVA #3

Flight engineers Douglas Wheelock and Tracy Caldwell Dyson extracted the failed pump from the station truss and prepared the spare pump for future installation. The EVA was performed on August 11, 2010, and lasted for 7 hours and 26 minutes.
